Step #3 Election Reform
Go to: First in the Nation Primary/Causus Go to: Uniformity at the Pilling Stations
Problems:
There are several problems in our election system:
Our present Primary/Caucus system creates tension amongst the States.
Lack of uniformity at the polling stations.
Early false reporting of polling results.
Not all votes count.
Solution:
Solution to the Primary/Caucus tensions:
The next elected president draws the State name from a hat with all the State names. That state hosts the first in the nation Primary/Caucus for the next Presidential Election. The next president does the same from the names remaining in the hat. After all; all States send their people to share in the horrors of wars, why not allow each to share in the honors of the elections.
The need for uniformity at the polling station:
Essential in assuring fair election results. For national elections, the ballots should be identical in shape, format, and kind throughout the nation, with the exact same list of candidates on the General Election Ballot. For state elections, the same throughout the state, but may differ from state to state; etc.
Uniformity at the polling stations must also include a designated National Language. People divided, fail.
Besides, how do you not discriminate based on race or nationality unless you provide ballots for every spoken, signed, or brail language on earth? The very security of our nation demands one unified language at the voting stations and elsewhere in government.
Polls that open and close at the same times nationwide:
The first step in preventing early and false poll results that deter voters in later time-zones from casting their votes.
Early false reports of voting results"
Ceases with a 24-hour blackout after the polls close prior to publishing first vote results. This allows as impartial and attentavie a voting environment as practical without the pressures of thinking your candidate has already won or lost so you don't even vote.
Correcting the not all votes count:
Happens by eliminating the electoral college. As for non-candidate issues, the vote tally must equal the total eligible registered voters in the subject district. There is only one of two ways to vote on non-candidate issues; either you favor a change or you do not. Therefore, all initiatives are a proposal to change from that which now exists. Thus, if you do not go to the polling station to cast a ballot either way, your vote counts as one who is not in favor of the change.
Proposed Amendment:
Election Reform:
1) In a similar manner as the Americans with Disabilities Act where parking spaces and ramp construction are uniform; so too would be the design of voting stations and ballots for all national elections.
2) For national elections, polling stations across the country in all time zones open at midnight Eastern Standard Time (or whatever the eastern most time zone for the nation might be at the time) and all stations across the country in all time zones close Hawaii time (or whatever the western most time zone for the nation might be at that time).
3) There shall be a 24 (twenty-four) hour blackout before publishing any voting results.
4) The heads of each branch of government (Legislative, Executive, and Judicial) shall be elected by the direct vote of the People. Repealing all provisions that allow an electoral college or other voting for government officials through representative elections.
5) The media (radio, TV, cable, print, and others), that reports any election coverage must allow up to the average equal news coverage to all candidates in the race. The list of candidates being obtained from the authorized financial reporting agency for the election. Advertising space, on the other hand, is limited to the candidate's campaign budget.
6) Candidates cannot raise or spend any more for their campaign than the total salary amount for one year of the office sought.
7) A unified National Language bonds the People of differing nationalities under a single roof called communications. A unified national language is paramount to the Preamble of our Constitution on the grounds of, a more perfect union, domestic tranquility, common defense, and general welfare.
Required Action:
If the People cannot persuade their legislators to enact these amendments, the People should begin doing so at their own city and town meetings, and work them to the national level of government.
If this fails, the People must re-organize the present form of government to be more responsive to the need and rights of the People.
